About Me

My Passion:

My passion and commitment has always been to create a safe place that allows you to be able to be yourself, especially in the worst of circumstances.  As soon as you enter my door no matter how different, angry, sad, confused, frustrated, stuck, happy and whatever else you may be....you have a safe place to land to just be heard, nurtured and supported with whatever matters to you.....no matter what. That's my promise.

I also love discovering what makes you tick and enjoy "finding the gold," especially when you don't see it within yourself. That doesn't mean glossing over what part you play in your life. It means learning how to navigate it all in a way that you might not have considered before. I often hear "I can't seem to get out of my own way." Together you can safely learn how to uncover your own blind spots.  This enables you to have access to, and freedom in areas that you just couldn't see before.

My foundational framework is to come from a win-win context. From there I use Cognitive Behavioral, Gestalt, Reality Therapy, Solution-focused and Strength-Based modalities. If it is important to you, I also incorporate your faith and/or spirituality into whatever goals you are working on. Sessions are geared to what works best for you in a way that works for you. I believe that each person is unique. Therefore so is your style of support.

My Experience:

My insatiable curiosity has led me to various positions over the past 25 years. I am an experienced Clinical Director who has worked in private, medical and public mental health care settings. I have worked with adoption agencies and continue to enjoy doing so. I have worked in homes with families and continue to work with adolescents in residential care settings. I educate and support families, parents and children about mental health and illnesses, and enjoy Transformational Workshops, Consultation and Agency Training. I like working with a variety of ages........ from stressed our parents with new babies to senior citizens.

How I got here:

I began developing my career in the mental health field as a teenager. I lived in the house in the neighborhood that people would come to for a safe place to land, be heard and supported without being judged. Throughout the years I also learned life lessons the hard way and have compassion for what it takes to dig yourself out of a hole when you can't see straight. In my 20's I loved working as a Veterinary Technician and became fascinated with the psychological relationship between owners and their pets. In 1994 I returned to Hahnemann University in Philadelphia to study Psychology and Mental Health, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

In 1996 I moved from the suburbs of Philadelphia to Mebane North Carolina to earn my Master's degree from the JMSW program at UNCG and A&T State University, was President of my class and also graduated Magna Cum Laude. From the very beginning, I knew that I had found a profession that I would enjoy for a lifetime.

Today:

Today I balance various professional roles that I enjoy to keep things fresh, keep me growing and developing myself and to avoid doing the same thing every day all day, which just isn't me. I'm also raising my teenage son and 2 kittens. During my free time I love to hike, bike and eat great foods with my friends and family. If you have any other questions or concerns about the services I provide....please don't hesitate to reach out and ask.  I'm here to help.
